Visit The Uffizi Gallery in Florence
The Uffizi Gallery in Florence is the most famous in the city, especially if you're a fan of Renaissance art, but even if you are not you will be amazed at the displays on show.
The Uffizi Gallery was constructed between 1560 and 1580 by Giorgio Vasari following the orders of Cosimo I de’ Medici, the first Gran Duque of Tuscany.
When sadly Vasari died in 1574, two other architects Bernardo Buontalenti and Alfonso Parigi il Vecchio were the ones put in charge of finishing the work.
The top floor was turned into a private gallery for the amusement of the ruling family of Florence and their friends.
The gallery became a museum and opened its doors officially in 1769 and today the Uffizi Gallery is one of the most admired and visited museums in the world.
In 2015 the gallery had almost two million visitors and this number increases every year.
